Tree Journal (37): A single spark can start a prairie fire

On 4thDecember 2019, a hill fire was spotted on the hilltop of Sze Pai Shek Shan at Tai Lam. Due to the dry weather (with a minimum relative humidity of only 32%) and the prevailing winds during the northeast monsoon, firesburnt from afternoon to the next morning. Visible from far away at night, the 700-meter raging flame aroused discussion and attention among citizens. As time flies, the project “Green Building Management in Kowloon City” has made itsthird comeback this winter with “Lowering Carbon Emission” as the theme! Activities have already been kicked off since November 2019: 1.Street Roving in Kowloon City: As the first promotion activity, roving work has been done in 4 locations in To Kwa Wan, Whampoa, Kowloon City and Ho Man Tin. We createda new maze game to talk about waste reduction challenges at the householdlevel. Pumpkin is the target theme of our farming squad for2020! Squad members have to:1. learn to plant pumpkin, 2. imply the knowledge from the trainingto actual farm work and 3. organize a pumpkin festival to promote and share farming stories with the public. This program targets those who are 18 years old or above and are interested in local Eco-farming. No farming experience is required yet high involvement is a must!
